New Fellow Nicole Tisnes Joins Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 Initiative

The Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 initiative announced today that Nicole Tisnes has joined the staff of the organization, as a Social Media and Communications Fellow.

“Our organization – like Los Angeles itself – is at its innovative and inclusive best when new ideas and fresh perspectives enter the conversation, and everyone rolls up their sleeves and works together to make positive change,” Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation, says. “We are delighted to welcome Nicole to the team.”

Tisnes is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in public relations at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism with an emphasis on digital social media and public behavior. She has a passion for utilizing digital social media to promote civic engagement, and is dedicated to helping Los Angeles become a place where everyone can thrive. Food insecurity, climate justice, and STEAM education in all schools are among the issues of particular interest to her.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to be joining the team in contributing to make Los Angeles a more equitable place for all Angelenos,” Tisnes says. “The Goldhirsh Foundation and LA2050 catalyze opportunities for organizations to create positive change in their communities. I can’t wait to do my part in creating a Los Angeles we can all be proud of.”

Tisnes, along with her colleagues, will work on a wide range of platforms and projects including the signature annual LA2050 Grants Challenge, now entering its tenth year. The LA2050 Grants Challenge is an open call for ideas to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. Last year, more than $2.6 was awarded to 37 organizations to implement their winning ideas – $1 million from the Goldhirsh Foundation, and the rest from a quartet of leading foundation partners.

Through the LA2050 Grants Challenge, members of the public vote online for the issues that will receive grant funding. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 2,500 proposals have been submitted from 1,800 LA-based social impact organizations. All of those organizations are available for anyone to search, view, and donate to at the LA2050 Ideas Hub.
