Our 2022 “LA2050 Wrapped"

Posted

We’re closing out 2022 with a look back on all that our community has achieved together over the past 12 months. Here are some of our “LA2050 Wrapped” highlights:

We launched our ninth LA2050 Grants Challenge and engaged almost 8,000 Angelenos in casting more than 60,000 votes for the issues you care about most. Our voting outreach efforts were supported by 78 LA2050 Youth Ambassadors (our first-ever cohort!), 26 community partners, and 10 LA2050 Listens event hosts. Plus, we engaged with almost 1,000 of you at the LA Times Festival of Books! Over on social media, we featured 17 local leaders highlighting the issues that matter most to them with our “I Care About…” campaign. After voting, we opened up applications to your top issue areas – including “affordable housing and homelessness,” “income inequality,” and “K-12 STEAM education” – and a remarkable 480 organizations submitted their best ideas to make a difference.

Through the LA2050 Grants Challenge, we gave $2.6 million to 37 social impact organizations, including our 15 LA2050 winner – more than ever before! Six different funding partners came together to make it happen: Goldhirsh Foundation, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Snap Foundation, John N. Calley Foundation, Annenberg Foundation, and Second Home Hollywood. We gathered to celebrate at our first-ever LA2050 Grantee Showcase, where speakers included then-Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell; the day was covered in a piece for Inside Philanthropy by journalist Martha Ramirez. One of our favorite moments? Catching the excited reactions of our winners on camera!

We highlighted resources to help you engage more deeply with LA's social impact sector. We shared more than 900 social impact job openings on the LA2050 Jobs Board and promoted more than 540 virtual and in-person events in the LA2050 Newsletter. We looked at how LA is faring according to our LA2050 metrics, spotlighting 25 via our #MetricMondays on social media. Our annual “Happy Birthday, LA!” e-book celebrated LA’s 241st year and further underscored the importance of our metrics. Through our Fave Fives, we featured 30 social impact leaders sharing their favorite places and spaces in LA. And, we produced 10 unique maps of LA to help us get to know our region better – including maps of local indie bookstores, botanical gardens, and food banks.

We amplified opportunities to make an impact in LA through donating, gifting, and volunteering. This year, we raised more than $32,000 for local nonprofits from 165 donors through the LA2050 Ideas Hub – including donations given through our recent Giving Tuesday match. We published our annual Social Impact Gift Guide, featuring 55 products and experiences from nonprofits, sustainable makers, cultural establishments, and BIPOC-owned businesses in LA. Plus, throughout the year, we promoted more than 150 local volunteer opportunities to help you make a difference.

Most of all, as we reflect, we’re filled with so much love and gratitude for our LA2050 community. We couldn’t do this without you! We look forward to continuing to work together in 2023 to make Los Angeles the best place to connect, create, learn, live, and play.
