The Development Director (DD) is responsible for all vital revenue streams, which allow Angel Flight West to achieve our mission and maximize our impact in the community. The individual in the DD role is an executive team member who will plan and organize fundraising activities, manage the development budget, and manage team members to raise funds to fuel our mission forward.
The DD oversees all fundraising activities and manages relationships with the organization’s financial partners. The duties include planning fundraising events, including the Endeavor Awards dinner and gala, and AFW Golf Classic, interacting with donors to encourage ongoing contributions, and seeking out opportunities for financial support through partnerships, individuals, grants, and sponsorships. As the driving force behind fundraising efforts, the Development Director plays a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization and the success of Angel Flight West’s programs and services.
This position reports to the Executive Director. The Development Director will oversee and work closely with the following development department team members:
- The Grants Manager, Angel Flight West’s master storyteller, oversees the grants calendar and regional budgets for submissions and reporting to potential and continuous grant funders. The Grants manager oversees two additional grant writers.
- Two Grant writers, responsible for finding funding opportunities and writing polished proposals to secure grant awards in the 12 states that AFW serves. Their duties include researching deadlines, drafting grant requests, and submitting reports for approval.
- The Senior Development Manager supports goals, plans, implements all fundraising campaigns, events, donor tracking and analysis, and manages the policies and procedures for the Fund Development department.
- The Development Associate plays an important role by providing donor acknowledgments, and manages the donor database records, as well as provides administrative support.
- The Development Assistant provides additional administrative support, manages full staff retreat and logistics, including participation in all fundraising activities and donor relations, marketing and communications, direct mail appeals, and special events.

Roles & responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet the organization’s annual revenue goals.
- Identify and cultivate major gift prospects, as well as corporate and foundation donors.
- Make direct, face-to-face solicitations.
- Help our donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
- Oversee the management of systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools. Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
- Oversee the development budget and monitor expenses.
- Manage and lead a team of fundraising professionals, providing guidance, training, and support as needed.
- Communicate fundraising goals throughout the organization and equip team members to reach them.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Outreach teams to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies and goals.
- Monitor and analyze fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies as needed.

Qualifications

- Comfortable using a donor database, prospect research and other wealth screening tools to aid in your moves management process.

- You will have some light physical demands (i.e. spending hours listening and talking; working on the computer and phone; driving to appointments and events; lifting light pieces of equipment and materials; and occasionally working long days, nights or weekends).

- Communicate excellently and compel audiences through writing and speaking.
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of success in major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and special events.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and marketing materials. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, board members, and volunteers.
- Experience with fundraising software and donor databases. Salesforce preferred

- Willing and able to travel extensively. Job requires travel throughout primarily the Western US.
