POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Associate supports Safe Parking LA’s mission by advancing annual and community giving initiatives, assisting with grants management, and serving as the frontline representative for general inquiries within Safe Parking LA’s emerging Development Department. This role offers a flexible, hybrid work environment and is ideal for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative early career professional interested in nonprofit development. Roles & responsibilities

WHAT YOUR DAYS CONSIST OF

Fundraising and Community Giving (50%)

• Support annual and community giving campaigns, including collaborating with development team members on multi-channel (print and digital) appeals.

• Coordinate donor engagement activities, such as mailings, appreciation events, and recognition efforts.

• Assist in prospecting and outreach for individual donors and in-kind contributions.

• Partner with the Donor Database Administrator to maintain accurate constituent records and donor histories.

• Collaborate with development team members to support development of donor-focused materials, such as event collateral and impact reports.

Grants Management (30%)

• Support the maintenance of the grants calendar, ensuring that deliverable deadlines are met.

• Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications and related deliverables.

• Research potential funding opportunities and provide summaries to support decision-making.

General Support (20%)

• Serve as the primary contact for general Development Department inquiries, responding promptly and professionally to emails and calls.

• Assist with gift processing and constituent record updates as directed.

• Provide logistical and administrative support to the Director of Development as needed.

• Other duties within the development department as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred.

• At least one year of experience in an office setting, preferably in nonprofit development or

communications.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and digital tools used in nonprofit development.

• Familiarity with donor management systems such as DonorPerfect is highly desirable.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing.

• Ability to effectively engage with diverse audiences with sensitivity and exceptional customer service.

• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

• Reliable transportation for moderate travel within the Los Angeles area.

• Strong commitment to Safe Parking LA’s mission and the ability to effectively articulate its values.

• Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.

• Background check (Live Scan) required by funding and regulatory agency.

• COVID-19 vaccination and TB clearance are required by funding and regulatory agencies.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to write participant data accurately, cohesive reports, and professional correspondence.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from your supervisor, participants, Safe Parking LA teammates, partner organizations, and the public.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret organizational procedures, governmental regulations, and newsalerts from public agencies.

• Ability to respond effectively and compassionately to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

• Spanish or other language skills, highly desirable.

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Hiring Rate: $26/ hour

• Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance coverage, 403(b) plan with employer match after one year, pet care plan, flex spending, paid holidays, sick days, and vacation, scheduled “soft close,” and a range of professional development opportunities including AFP membership.

• Laptop computers and cell phones are provided, plus a monthly stipend for technology and home office needs.

SCHEDULE

• This is a full-time, exempt position with an expected average of 40 hours per week. Work outside of normal business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, is expected.

• Hybrid position with remote and on-site work at Safe Parking LA office and safe parking program location.

• Specific in-office and remote days and hours to be determined by development leadership.
