CONNECT ·2025 Grants ChallengeAscot Hills FREE (Fire Resilience for Environmental Equity)
North East Trees will restore 33 acres of critical urban wilderness in Ascot Hills Park by training six local youth and planting 2,000 native trees and plants to create fire-adapted, climate-resilient native habitat. The project addresses wildfire risk, air pollution, biodiversity loss, and youth workforce development in one of L.A.’s most vulnerable communities. In the wake of January’s devastating wildfires, this project offers a replicable and scalable model for creating fire-adapted parks in densely populated vulnerable urban communities.

Climate change and lack of green space affects everyone, but the future belongs to our youth. 14% of Los Angeles residents are aged 15-24, showcasing a unique opportunity for our youth to advocate for a greener, more climate-resilient future. The Youth Environmental Advocacy (YEA) Program offers paid opportunities for youth in LA's underserved communities to learn about intersectional environmental issues that affect their daily lives and collaborate with community leaders to effect lasting change in their communities.
